The egg, which is pure protein, acts as a natural hair cleanser. High in protein, egg shampoo is excellent for every hair type. The protein works to strengthen the hair shaft, boost hair growth and adds volume and texture to the hair. Since I don’t use shampoo, I always keep trying a lot of natural shampoo recipes- egg shampoo being one of them. I would like to admit that of all the recipes I have tried, egg shampoo has been the best of them with amazing after-effects.

Eggs are a natural hair cleansers that work in getting rid of dirt, grime, stale oils and dead skin cells. This is because they contain lecithin, a natural emulsifier that work in emulsifying in your scalp and hair with water, thereby helping wash them out, leaving your hair squeaky clean and grease-free! When blended eggs turn into a foamy mixture, a sort of lather, which you can naturally and easily wash your hair with. Also rich in fatty acids, water and nourishing nutrients eggs don’t only just cleanse your hair but also promote strong, long and luscious locks!
Things you need-
- 1-2 eggs with egg yolks ( depending on the hair length)
- 2 tsp organic gram flour
- 1 tsp pure coconut oil
- 1/4 cup filtered water
- few drops of lavender or rosemary essential oil
Beat 2 eggs in a bowl till a homogeneous solution is obtained. Do not let it froth. Add gram flour, coconut oil and water. Blend everything on high for few secs.
Finally, add in few drops of essential oil and you are done with making shampoo!
Wet your hair and apply the egg shampoo to your scalp the length of hair. Massage for 3-5 minutes and leave it on for 1 to 5 minutes. It actually absorbs really well into your hair. Rinse off thoroughly and you are done!
You may give a final rinse of diluted apple cider vinegar or use a hair conditioner to get rid of the egg smell.
Ways to remove egg smell from hair:
