I absolutely love chai tea! Just give me hot masala chai in the winter weathers and I am sorted! Chai tea is a traditional Indian black tea and the recipe isn’t as complicated as you think it is; all you need is a set of specific spices to add to your tea and you are done! Below is how you could make your very own masala chai tea spice mix:
BENEFITS OF ADDING SPICES TO YOUR CHAI:
Ginger- Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce inflammation in the body and boosts immune system thereby building body’s resistance. This spice mix works great in preventing respiratory infections and other health problems in the colder months/changing weather and otherwise too.
Cinnamon- Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects. It also helps in relieving various digestive issues and PMS.
Fennel seeds- Fennel seeds aid in digestion and help relieve bloating. It also helps reduce menstrual cramps.
Cardamom- Cardamom works as a great body detox. It also helps improve digestion and boost the immune system.
Nutmeg- Nutmeg helps improve your sleep routine and has body detoxifying properties. Although, make sure you do not add a lot of nutmeg.
Black pepper- Black pepper has anti-bacterial properties and helps improve metabolism. It also detoxifies the body and boosts immunity.
RECIPE FOR CHAI TEA SPICE MIX:
Things you need:
- Cinnamon sticks/powder- For sweetness and warmth
- Fennel seeds/powder- Offers a gentle liquorice note
- Cardamom pods whole/powder- gives a dominant sweet-smoky flavor
- Dry ginger/ginger powder- Flavors the whole pot of tea with a fresher spice note
- Whole nutmeg/nutmeg powder- Adds a sweet and nutty flavour to your tea
- Whole black pepper/black pepper powder- Gives the chai a spicy bite
Note: You can adjust the quantity of ingredients according to your taste preferences. Just make sure that black pepper is the least as it can make your chai spicier than necessary.
Simply grab all the spices according to the quantity you like and add it in a blender. If you do not have whole spices, you can add powders too.
Blend everything together and your chai spice mix is ready!
Store it in an air-tight container and add just ½ a teaspoon to one cup of chai (black tea prepared using milk).
