If you are someone who loves makeup, you might as well own a lot of makeup brushes. I personally own a lot of them and I am too lazy to wash them on a regular basis! If you are like me, you need to thoroughly wash them at least once a week or after every 2-3 uses (if not after every use) to avoid turning them into a breeding ground for bacteria. One change I have seen after I made up a habit of washing them regularly is that my acne and blemishes reduced considerably! Also, I do not use any commercial makeup brush cleaner; I instead like using my own 3-ingredient homemade version of makeup brush cleaner. Below is a step wise recipe:
Things you need-
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup of any liquid soap or castile soap (to thoroughly cleanse away the gunk and dirt)
- 1 teaspoon organic coconut oil (break down makeup particles, keeps bristles soft, anti-microbial)
In a bowl, add water followed by liquid soap. Give it a quick stir.
Add in coconut oil and mix.
Now, soak your makeup brushes in the water for 10 minutes and scrub the bristles gently on a rough wash cloth or a brush scrubber. I like using the brush scrubber that I have.
Finally rinse it under the tap, squeeze out all the water and air dry.
